When I reviewed his book on the 40D, I criticized him severely for making irrelevant comparisons to the 30D. I feared that this book would be full of irrelevant comparisons to the Mark II. My fears were groundless, as this book barely recognizes the existence of the Mark II.Busch is a top-selling author for a reason: his books are well-written, understandable, well organized, and well illustrated. This book is no exception. If you are new to the Mark III, upgrading from one of the more amateur-oriented cameras (such as the 40D), then this is a must-have book. It will help you get running with the new features of the Mark III and solidify your knowledge of the more standard features of the less expensive Canons. Experienced Canon users of high-end cameras might not learn much from this, however. It's sort of your call.
I have heard so much about Daves books and after buying my 5D3 last year, I wanted to get more insight to all the ins and outs of the camera. As we all know, the manual that comes with the camera is boring, dry and doesn't give you the whys about the camera, only the whats. I tried to read through the Canon manual and it was just putting me to sleep and would not keep my interest. So I opted to get Daves books, both the main guide and the compact field guide. The book keeps me amused with Daves comedic sense of humor but more so, is extremely detailed and tells you everything you need to know on how to operate the camera and as well, why you should operate it a certain way versus what the Canon manual says. Thats the most important aspect of the book, it answers the why, how and whats. Extremely satisfied with the content of the book and highly recommend it to anyone that wants more education on your camera.
Great reference to get you started on the basics of the 5Diii as well as the more intricate aspects of its advaced 61 point focusing system. Busch covers a wide range of topics not only on the camera and it's vast features and capabilities but also lenses, accessories, storage cards, flash heads and more. Whether you read it from front to back or as a reference manual to suit your needs, this book is extremely helpful to anyone that owns a 5D III. More experienced photogs can delve right into the advanced features explained while the novice will get the basics and beyond as fast as they can digest. The 5Diii is a serious investment with more features than most people are likely to use but as you learn and grow into it this book will continue to be a great reference to go back to. It's more than a manual supplement and will appeal to the owner who wants to maximize their understanding of the 5Diii's capabilities and the how's and why's of using them.
Worth the wait in finally getting published... I am happy to add this volume to my other Canon references by David Busch. As always, I bow to the master in presenting the finer details in more depth and with colorful and informative text and illustrations. David's contribution to the field of photography is always masterful and he even makes it more fun learn! Once again he hits the high mark in presenting not only the Canon 5D Mark III, but all the Canon Flash and many other accessories to boot. This is a "must have" reference for users at all levels of experience!
I was a bit disappointed by this book after waiting for it for so long. This is a first book by David Busch that I bought and I had high expectations judging from 5-star reviews of his other books.I bought a printed version and the book is printed on high quality heavy paper and is pleasant to hold and read (unless you want to carry it around, but for that you can get a digital version).My biggest disappointment is a lack of discussion or recommendations on possible custom configurations of controls (at least I didn't see it in the book - and I am half through the book and browsed the rest). My previous camera was 20D, so many of the advances functions on 5D Mark III were completely new to me.About a year ago I bought another book (e-book) on 5D Mark III - "Canon 5D Mark III Experience - The Still Photography Guide to Operation and Image Creation with the Canon EOS 5D Mark III" by Douglas Klostermann and I should say I liked it much better, at least in the part related to still photography. Among other things that I liked in that book was a relatively detailed discussion of things like back button focusing, different configurations of customization of the controls and buttons - things that I didn't know about.David Busch's book has several chapters dedicated to video and flash which I liked.In general I would recommend it but along with other books out there (including the book I mentioned)
I had read David Busch's guide to the EOS 7D and liked it so much that I got this guide for my used EOS 5D Mk III. Both are Kindle versions, so that I can read them anywhere I can use my laptop, without carrying a printed book around with me. There are many details to know to use these cameras in various conditions, and David's books usually tell me what I need to know for each new setup that I want to try.Being able to do a word search in this version makes finding what I need very convenient, since an index (in book form) doesn't always point you where you want to be.
My second purchase of one of David Busch's Canon books (also have the Mark ii book). The Canon 5D series camera has an awesome array of features that can allow you to really push your photography. David's books on the subject are very well written, informative and actually cover every aspect of the camera and its functions and features. If you really want to maximumize your camera I'd recommend you get his books on the camera. An excellent addition to the collection and go to reference.
