Man it's been a brutal 20 years but this book does a great job and outlining some of the struggles great to see the dawg pound turning the corner, THANK YOU BAKER AND FREDDIE !

I read all of Tony Grossi's articles online and listen to all of his podcasts so I was surprised to discover he had written this book and I had not heard about it. I really enjoyed his book. After being a fan of the Browns since they came into the AAFC I was surprised to learn how much I did not know about them by reading this book. For anyone who is a Cleveland Browns fan this book is a must read.

Bought it for my dad as a gift for Father's day. Tony Grossi is easily the best writer covering the Browns at this point in time and the stories were all interesting and fun to read. Highly recommended for any Browns fan.

It has great stories and is very informative and offers great behind the bench and scene stories that are fascinating, surprising, fun and informative. I only wish it were a bit longer.

Got this yesterday and finished it today. An excellent read, highly recommended for any Browns fan.

Bought it as a Christmas gift for a Cleveland Brown fan, former football player and football extra in the movie "Draft Day." He called it an excellent traveling companion.

Stan Sakai creates amazing stories. Characters with depth, plotlines with detail, twists and continuity. I found Usagi towards the beginning of the Dark Horse era. This collection had stories I had not read. I was thrilled to get it.

You can never go wrong with a Usagi book . Not all are equally good stories but always thought provoking The service was very quick and the condition was as advertised. I'll deal with them again

This was a Christmas gift for our 13 year old grandson who was elated upon receiving it. He is an avid reader and he was glad to have it in his collection of comic books.

Usagi Yojimbo is the kind of quality work that transcends time, genres, demographics, and even age groups. It crafts a delicate and beautiful balance between honor and savagery, cute innocence and dark brutality, simple heart-warming stories and multi-part epics that shape a dense continuity. Whether or not you've ever been a fan of feudal Japanese culture, furry anthro characters, or independent, non-superhero comics, Usagi Yojimbo is a comic that can't help but impress even the harshest critic.There's no such thing as a bad Usagi installment, but Book 5 of the Miyamoto Usagi saga is probably among the weaker of the volumes. It comes right after The Dragon Bellows Conspiracy, a beautifully crafted and masterfully executed 7 part epic that no doubt left creator Stan Sakai a bit drained by its conclusion. As a result, while Book 5 includes some fun Usagi adventures, it pales in comparison to what came before it, as well as what will follow.Worth noting in this volume is "A Kite Story," the first of several memorable stories in which carefully researched history takes the center stage. Here, Sakai salutes the ancient Japanese art of box kite making. Usagi's presence in this adventure is actually secondary to the primarily educational story. This is a very daring and surprisingly successful approach to storytelling.Also fondly remembered is "Lone Goat and Kid," a homage to the legendary "Lone Wolf and Cub" manga. For fans of the original series, this adventure does not have much to offer, but if you are unfamiliar with the original material, you will no doubt find this story as thoroughly entertaining as I did. Sakai truly infuses the richness of those characters into this story with little lost in the translation.Finally, "Blood Wings" and "The Way of the Samurai" both play an important part in the long term continuity of Usagi Yojimbo, though neither story particularly stunned me. Still, there is no such thing as a bad Usagi story.

Early collection of original Fantagraphics material of the samurai ronin rabbit. The hardcover signed/numbered editions can go for a fortune. They are low numbered and not many shops picked them up when they first came out. Stan Sakai is a genius! The samurai rabbit is now 30+ years old, see why he has continued to be so popular! Is it as artsy as Maus or Watchmen, no, but a solid story with attention to detail and historical accuracy when possible. Highly recommended!

I wouldn't say that this is Stan Sakai's best Usagi book, but it is still head and shoulders above just about any other comic.Though it is titled "Lone Goat and Kid" (a nice reference to that classic samurai manga "Lone Wolf and Cub"), they don't appear "on-screen" until the last story. The most of the stories are stand-alones, which is unusual in UY comics. The stories that revolve around the kite festival are quite enjoyable. Sakai is very interesting even when his main characters don't appear in a chapter because he is explaining something technical like how kites are made or how swords are fashioned (see UY 9 "Daisho").The "Blood-Wings" story is interesting, but the Komori Ninja have never been as compelling to me as the Neko Ninja. (Though they aren't as bad as the Mogura Ninja.)"Lone Goat and Kid" is something of a let down when you get there, if one is familiar with Lone Wolf and Cub. If not, then it's a nice, average Usagi tale in a book that is full of them.

I almost didn’t buy this true story. Why? The selling price for just 28 pages. Not a lot of money, to be sure, but, well, I just didn’t expect to find it worthwhile.But I was wrong. There is so much of interest. Here is what I found:At the start, the author comes across as someone who speaks so frankly and in such candor that the reader may form a negative opinion of her. About halfway through, though, I had to dispense with my initial thought and commend her for her sincere understanding of the man who was trying to reform himself and win custody of the child. Eventually, she, and I, empathise so thoroughly with him and his predicament that I shed a tear for him.For a 30-minute read, this was incredible.BLUSH FACTOR: The few profanities might be disconcerting for some, but, in my humble opinion, were NECESSARY to include as spoken. Yes, in nonfiction, on a rare occasion, it is necessary to quote what is said verbatim. Great short story!

didn't realize this book was so short

A couple decides to adopt to expand their family, but soon finds their joy marred by the question of the birth father. Mani and David must fight in court for the right to keep the son they've grown to love. Worse, they must fight a man that represents everything they hate.This true story is a real nail biter. The author explains the applicable laws well enough that the risk is clear. Every time the author is thinking "what now" the reader is too. It's an intense story, and an honest look at the adoption process and the toll it takes on all parties.

Disclaimer: I have known the author since she herself was a child. This little book is a wonderful, true tale of love and acceptance happening at a most trying time. Mani writes well of her ordeal and challenges. I think anyone considering an open adoption would find this book practically useful and emotionally meaningful. And the meaningful aspect should touch anyone. Compelling to read, the message flows simply from an unusual but credible experience, conjuring a full range of parental feelings, from the primitive and fearful to transformative love. Perhaps Mani, an accomplished graphics artist and designer, will take to pen again and share more of her literary gifts.

The struggles of miscarriages and not being able to conceive lead to an adoption of a healthy baby boy...but things are never as simple as that and the unknown always makes one fear the "what ifs" .... a mother struggles with making a connection because of this fear, but once that realization and hurdle is past, the family is not done facing challenges...a very touching story of learning a different acceptance and beyond that what effect having a child can mean to a person and how it can make a person change for the better...not mentioned but when there is a loss or when it turns out differently than expected that too can make a change in a person...no longer needing to be that role model ....kinda sad for that situation, but a happy one for the family.

Amazing book.The book resides somewhere amidst economics, history and philosophy.Mises slays socialism on all three counts.Economically the inability to perform economic calculations kills socialism and makes it static, unable to adjust to anything.Philosophically he shows how liberalism is superior to collectivism and all other forms of coercion in the name of the mythical 'society' are simple covers for tyranny.Historically he traces the Marxist movement in the pre war and post war years. I gleaned some new insight into the split of the Marxists that birthed the Bolsheviks. The chapter on Christian Chiliasm I find particularly fascinating. He shows that while Christianity is often the force resisting communism, it also contributes greatly due to the misunderstanding of the gospels and their incorrect interpretation as non-messianic guidelines. The gospels were based on the understanding that the Kingdom of God was just around the corner. They were not intended as a guide to creating a communist society.Brilliant man.

If I could I would give this book 10 stars! It is a tour de force, a magnum opus of Mises' that is timeless. If you ever really wanted to know why there is such a hue and cry for a static steady state economic system at full equilibrium by the left and socialists Mises uncovers it here. As he states herein, 'It is the only economic system that socialism can manage.'The entire background and reason for the socialism calculation debate is inside of these pages. I have debated with many who have read a blog or try to refute Mises out of hand but you cant do it. he has covered every type of socialism within these pages and had already refuted whatever you can bring to the table.

Ludwig von Mises is the major force in the Austrian School of Economics. In the 1920's everyone understood the incentive problems of socialism. If everyone is equal who is going to shovel manure and take out the garbage. The answer socialist gave was the creation of the morally superior Socialist Man working for the common good cheerfully so that taste-testing cake and coal mining would not be percieved as different vocations in utopia. Wew! that problem is solved! We weren't buy it but is was considered correct and polite opinion before the inevitable crime of collectivism were revealed, but it still has adherents at universities, Hollywood, and the media. Mises' unique insight - which was taken seriously at the time and today is that without free actors in a free (unhampered) market using freely adjusting prices it is IMPOSSIBLE to allocate resources in any way other than in massively tragic, embarrassing, and distructive misallocations. This book detail why a centrally planned economy will misallocate everything and cause tragic waste and inevitable as well as unnecessary poverty. The book is an elaboration of his masterwork article "The Impossibility of Calculation in the Socialist Commonwealth"

Wladyslaw Szpilman wrote this true story of his days as a Jewish prisonerin the ghetto of Warsaw. Szpilman is a classically trained pianist. He isfrom a close and loving musical Jewish family. The book was first published in Poland after the war ended. However, it was not well received by the Poles.In later years Szpilman's 12 year old son found the book and read it. Hepromised himself he would tell his fathers story. It was republished in the U S in 1999.It is well written,easy to read and a new perspective on those years in "Jewish Hell."When the book was republished Szpilman was still living, preforming and writing music.He is well known and respected as a musician in Poland. I highly recommend this book.

I'll start off by saying that this book was so intriguing, and emotional, and intense. Anyone who is able to think back to their experience during a rough time, like World War 2, and relive that by writing in down is very brave, and by doing this, provides insight as to what humanity is capable of. This book not only reveals the dark side of humanity (war soldiers and leaders who destroy cities and lives), but also a brighter side (shown in all the people who showed Szpilman kindness during his journey). Szpilman did a fantastic job of going in depth, and revealing what lives were like during the war, which was most likely his reason for writing it. Every chapter provided new knowledge to the reader, and the book was interesting throughout every single page. Szpilman did a great job of describing all of the people and places in the book, which made the story seem even more real.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in anything dealing with global conflict in the 20th century. I've read several memoirs about WW2, and this one was one of my favorites. Szpilman really makes you stop and consider how lucky you are, being able to live without fearing for your life every day. It also makes you evaluate how much the war changed things- not politically or economically, but how it altered the lives of everyday people. I also found the Extracts from the Diary of Captain Wilm Hosenfield, and the epilogue written by Wolf Biermann to be really interesting, and add even more insight to the war, from different perspectives. Overall, I loved the book. I have no complaints, and would recommend it to almost anybody.

A fan of the movie, I had to grab this ebook when I saw it was on sale for $1.99. While the movie is excellent, as usual, the book is even better. It was difficult to read, but hard to put down. The subject matter is intense, but necessary. Much of the book covers Szpilman's life in the Warsaw ghetto. We see what life was like living trapped inside the ghetto, with freedoms slowly being stripped away and the Jewish population becoming increasingly nervous at the uncertainties that lie ahead.Szpilman finds himself alone and fighting for his life by hiding in various places in Warsaw, often in dangerously close approximation to the Nazi militia. What I find so compelling is the fact that, instead of being bitter and crying out against those who killed most everyone he knew and loved, Szpilman pays tribute to the German officer who discovered his hiding place, and, instead of killing him on the spot, coaxed Szpilman from the brink of death by bringing him food and a warm coat, as well as news of the German Nazi's impending fall from power.Such a powerful story! If you enjoyed the film, you'll enjoy the book.

I've read many books about the Holocaust and living conditions during World War II, but this one is something different. While it is an actual account of one man's experience in the Warsaw ghettos and hiding from the Germans, it is written in a way that flows, is easy to read, and is captivating as you learn how brutal and dangerous life was during the war. The author had an uncanny knack for survival despite the horrors surrounding him. It's a heart wrenching read to know this is a true life story, written to document the experience and not to embellish the events for dramatic effect. It's amazing to me that survived and shared his story with us.

Excellent resource that is well laid out and clear. Great for all levels of learning. I actually tabbed mine out for ease of reference. Love live love it.

I was very interested in learning to read Lenormand cards. I bought a deck but didn't feel as though I connected with them at all. I have a basic knowledge of Tarot and just didn't feel I had any intuition in reading Lenormand in the way I had with Tarot. I saw that this book was highly recommended and decided to buy it. I am so glad that I did. Rana George is THE teacher of Lenornand, After reading her book, I feel very connected to the Lenormand Cards and system of reading. It is incredibly straight forward and way more direct than Tarot. I had been working on becoming a professional Tarot reader and then moved to a very conservative area. ( really, the county I live in, in Maryland, has "anti witchcraft" laws on the books and Metaphysical shops aren't allowed here!) I thought that Lenormand would be a good system to know because it doesn't appear as "Metaphysical" as Tarot.And as it turns out, I love reading Lenormand. Much more so than I ever did reading Tarot! And that is all thanks to Raina George and her wonderful book! Definitely 5 stars.

 Fantasitic Informative book! It can be a bit overwhelming at first and there is a lot of information in here, but IMO it's what you want when you're really connecting with your cards and want to spread your wings! I got this a few days ago and after watching on Youtube Donnaeigh's in depth review and being able to see what's in the Book, it's Exactly what I've been searching for, for months! I don't like to buy books without being able to browse through it and the Barne's & nobles here didn't have any of them in stock. I am still reading it and of course using it daily. This is such a perfect companion book for you Lenormand deck. I currently just have 2, Titani's & Gilded Reverie, but I am buying a few more and just bought the INstant Lenormand mini deck. So excited!

Unless you are deeply dedicated to Lenormand, this book is very tedious and overwhelming. A beautiful book and has all the detail you would like so if you breathe Lenormand this is for you. If it's just a past time, then maybe this isn't the book for you.

Each and every one of them I would enjoy using.Then we came to the GT. I had some typed notes taken from online and other books I own, all step by step. I have done one GT following these steps and it felt strained. I felt obligated to use every single step in order to wring as much as I could from the spread. I truly was wondering at times why I was doing that. It was of value to those who had written up about it, so I must use it, right? (You have to remember - us newbies are going to be like sponges!) Those notes are out of the folder and binned. Rana's explanation and step by step guide was simpler yet I suspect I will not be lacking in detail by not using some of the ones I had previously noted. It was nice to read that she didn't often use the GT, and had only done so again recently. It is not the be all and end all...lolWith regards the card descriptions - lots of detail, but also in table form for other correlations such as items it could represent, descriptions of a person on a personality or physical level. And more. And lots of examples of how that card could be read when in a line with other cards, as well as example readings.The appendices are also good. Useful tables of indicator cards, playing card inserts with reference to the courts as examples.If anyone is on the fence about this book I would suggest hopping off it right now. The only way I can describe it is as being informative, illuminating, informal, refreshing and liberating. At times, also entertaining. I have heard Rana on podcasts, and she appeared friendly and relaxed through those broadcasts. Whilst reading the book, I could almost at times hear here voice and the occasional giggle. I just know she is going to be in my corner as I forward my Lenormand journey, and I can go back to this book any time and know the guidance will be there to get me through any doubts or sticky patches.My daily draw for the day I finished the book?? Stars / Heart / Ship. Yep, I am now inspired to enjoy the Lenormand journey :) Other teachings had left me feeling low in confidence and at times confused.

I have used Lenormand cards for readings in the past with astounding results. I have worked with Tarot since 1974 but fell in love with these little cards (Blue Owl deck) that just fit in my hand and pocket so well. Information on how to use these cards was very limited but I picked up a few things from books, enough to feel fairly confident using them with clients. My clients really liked the readings with these but I always felt I wasn't getting all that I could from these cards. The Essential Lenormand was my Key Card (#33 ); my epiphany. I really get it now!This book has so much more information, clearly stated, than any other book I've read on this topic. The author uses her vast experience to so easily explain how to do a spread from simple all the way to using all 36 cards. Having all the cards on the table can be a scary thing when you feel like "now what, where do I start?". It won't seem intimidating at all if you work your way through this book and do the exercises included. To really get that A-Ha moment try experiencing this book with Rana George's podcasts with DonnaLeigh De La Rose (under Lenormand Lessons at DonnaLeigh.com , don't worry they're free.) it was impressive that she donated so much of her time while she was in the process of writing this book.

We are studying the history of holidays for our Kindergarten year of homeschooling. "True Books: Independence Day" is a great jumping off point for our 4th of July study, briefly covering from Columbus to the present. It shouldn't be the only book you read though. I highly recommend reading the biography, "George Washington" by D'Aulaire and "Red, White, and Blue (All Aboard Reading)" by Herman with it. And if you want something just for fun... get "Yankee Doodle" by Gary Chalk.I'm not sure what the reading level is... but as a read-aloud I feel that it works in the 5-8yr old range. The 9-12 age recommendation on the Amazon description seems off to me. If you are looking for a book in that range, try "Fireworks, Picnics, and Flags: The Story of the Fourth of July Symbols" by Giblin. For preschoolers I would suggest looking at the Independence Day (Rookie Read-About Holidays)series which has similar titles. This one was too much for my 3.5 year old to sit through.I will be getting more books in this series.

As with all of Prof. Daileader’s lectures, this was well done. He blends good content with dry humor and effective ways of explaining things to all of us ordinary people. I highly recommend all three of his middle ages lectures.

In a nutshell, "The High Middle Ages" was very educational - the subject matter was highly interesting and provided about the right amount of depth versus breadth - and also entertaining - the lecturer (Professor Daileader) has a great style and delivery.

Simply wonderful lectures. If you care for historical investigation done right, you will enjoy these lectures greatly.

OK, now I am completely certain that Professor Daileader knows much more about Medieval history than I do. That is a given. What bothered me was that during the lecture on heresies, he said there were NO heresies in the church prior to the High Middle Ages and he said the reason he was saying that was because it was only in the High Middle Ages when heresy became widespread. Obviously, he talked about the Bogomil, Waldensian and the Cathars heresies that the church had to deal with starting in the 11th century.However, what about the Arian heresy and the Donatist heresy of the 4th and 5th centuries? It seems to me that Professor Daileader's assertion is that nobody seriously questioned the church in the Early Middle Ages. However, Arianism was considered a big "problem" for the early medieval church, since Theodoric and the Ostrogoths were converted by Arian missionaries. The only reason that Arianism died out, from my limited understanding is because immediately after Theodoric's death, the Ostrogothic kingdom collapsed, thereby paving the way for Clovis and Charlemagne to conquer and effectively "Catholicize" the European continent through conquest. The Ostrogoths, for awhile at least, appeared in Italy and were widespread from anything I have read. Clovis chose Catholicism over Arianism, feeling that it would benefit the Franks politically, which is exactly what happened.Having said that, both Donatism and Arianism were definitely considered by both the church and contemporaries to be heretical in every sense of the word. So, I'm not sure why Daileader says there were no heresies until the High Middle Ages. He should know better.

A poor speaker who uses inflated and redundant descriptors tirelessly. I listened to this professor's entire Early Middle Ages lecture, which was brutal, but after an hour I am done with this one. The final straw was when he described the demesne. It is pronounced de-MAIN, not de-MEZ-na, which is just evidence item #345 of a person who does not know what he's talking about.

Brilliant book that covers the authors three visits to Vietnam during three very distinct periods of Vietnam's history and economic development. The book is a cross between a travel narrative, a GI's account of his time in Vietnam (note the author was not on the front lines so this isn't in anyway a gory war book which I think is a good thing) with a good deal of easy to read history, economic and cultural information put in.The author was in Vietnam for almost a year very early in the war (1966-67), went back shortly after Vietnam opened to the world again (1995) and then a final short trip in 2011.The author is obviously an academic and a true traveler (as I am I have a doctorate in International Business and my specific interest is Emerging Market and Developing Countries). In many ways he describes Vietnam in the same ways that I do but the author gave a me a lot of incite into the history of Vietnam that I really enjoyed. I also got a lot out of the book since his years in Vietnam differ from the years my father and I were in Vietnam and Vietnam has changed so much in so few years.My father is a career military photographer and was in Vietnam all of 1969. I was able to read this book in the living room with my father and read a lot of the book out loud to him which prompted some wonderful conversations and comparisons none of which were especially painful for him (i.e no Hamburger hills etc).I was in Vietnam in 2003, a magical time after Doi Moi was implemented and the country had so much energy and hope for the future. During this time the country had installed some of its tourist infrastructure so it was easy to travel in but few tourist were there so the country was still uncorrupted by tourism. During my time in Vietnam I was able to explore the Hill Tribe areas north of Hanoi all the way south past Saigon into the Mekong Delta.The only part of the book I didn't like or agree with was the author's views of Nixon and Kissinger. I felt that assessment was erroneous and shortsighted but since the rant was only 5 pages or so I kept the books 5 star rating.

Branson's unelaborated accounts of his service in Viet Nam off the coast in the Navy's junk patrols was vivid and honest, yielding only slightly to subsequent political influences. His views of modern Viet Nam are clear and vivid, of great use to the student of Modern Asia. I found myself smiling when, after 'Swift-boating' the service of the Swift Boat patrols, he complained about being 'Swift-Boated' himself, but such are the conflicts of human nature with human desire. The book is very clear-eyed in most areas, less so on U.S. politicians and policy, but a very superior memoir-cum-travelogue.

This is an interesting, anecdotal look back on one soldier's experience during the Vietnam war and also recent Vietnam history from the perspective of an American who saw combat duty there. It is not a war story but paints with a broader brush. I enjoyed his forthright opinions on the mythology of the war that continues to be perpetrated by the Vietnam Communist regime, travel writers, etc. I was stationed at Cu Chi in 1969 and I would never go back there to see all that hateful anti-American propaganda. This is a "from the ground" American perspective of the legacy of the Vietnam war and Vietnamese society. An easy read on a difficult subject for those of us who spent a year of our young lives there.

I felt this is a the real story. As a Viet Nam Vet, I was assigned at the same time frame and saw similar things. I like the overviews of the return trips, which helped me understand Viet Nam today. This makes me want to return.

A interesting read for anyone who has been in VietnamSomewhat padded with general history of the country, however.

Not only is it a good read on the war, the author takes return trips years later and tells what it is really like in the country today. Hard to put this jewel down long enough to eat! You can't miss on this book.

I bought this book hoping it would have more about the "brownwater navy" of the Vietnam War. I applaude the authors service, but I'm not a fan of the book.

Having served with the Coast Guard in coastal Vietnam in 1970, this book brought back a number of memories from that time. This book is an enjoyable read, and I recommend it, especially to those who served in the "Brown Water Navy" or Coast Guard in Vietnam and to members of their families who want a taste of that world.
