I love the xxxholic series and I'm happy that new readers can have their own pristine copies of the manga at a reduced price.The production quality is fine, and if you haven't read this series yet, there is no better way to get started than with this omnibus edition. Also, if you've lost track of your old copies and want to re-read. There isn't any new material.Initially, I give it only 4 stars because it contains no color pages. Then I give one star back because it is inexpensive.However, my order of this book was a mistake as I thought I was getting a copy of the fan-book. That was my fault, and it gave me an opportunity to re-read the first 3 volumes once again. Always delightful.
If you have seen the Anime, the first omnibus is very similar to it, so not a lot of new material, but the art is great, and there are several pages of notes that explain some of the "inside jokes" which is quite insightful. If you have not seen the Anime, the story is, a somewhat dark look the demons surrounding us all (the name 'holic' refers to our bad habits, which are portrayed as invisible demons). The character are drawn very uniquely for a Manga, which I find fascinating.I will echo another reviewer that the paper is unfortunately very cheap feeling. Overall satisfying, but I wish the publisher had invested a few extra cents per copy on better paper.
The pictures dont really show how much its splitting since I had to use the other hand to take the picture. For 16 bucks I was expecting better quality to this manga, also I was expecting some of the pictures to be colored in. I got this manga on Tuesday and mind you I take very good care of my books/mangas specially since this one is special to me, I decided to buy it brand new. To me it looks like really bad quality and like it was a used model. The story is amazing I would give that 5 stars if not more, but the quality of the book for the price is not worth it. Next time I'll buy it used.
Great Japanese cultural read with spooky stories, Spirits, the Occult, and Shinto religion elements. Plus a wacky teenager who has the ability to to attract and see spirits. Yuko, the Medium , is also wonderfully eccentric and very powerful spiritually. I love the stories that Clamp fashion along with their strangely attractive art style. The art is jarring at first, but you get used to it. Willowly thin long angular figures with lots of leg. Wonderful series! Getting all the omnibus series!
Fine enough collection of the first three volumes. Having all three in the same place is nice, and the construction of the book itself is acceptable. Probably won't last through a lot of wear and tear, but for the purposes of being taken off the shelf every now and then, it's fine. I do wish the colored pages were actually color, instead of this just being basically the first three tankobon bound together. For $15, it's a good deal.
I was a big fan of the anime, but the manga is better. I highly recommend this if you enjoy the anime or if you like quirky, supernatural, funny mangas, check this out.
I like omnibuses, especially for saving money and keeping volumes together. Xxxholic is such a good manga and anime. If you're considering trying it out, you definitely should. It's a very deep story.
As said In the title this is the beginning to an amazing series which runs the gambit from sad, to funny, to hopeful, and everything I'm between. Dealing primarily with the occult and Japanese mysticism, xxxHolic really comes into its own when dealing with addiction and human vices. Much as the title suggests.
