About the Author
Katie Essam's passion for textiles began when she graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a BA Hons in Contemporary Applied Art. She has taught herself freehand machine embroidery, appliqué and many other textile techniques, combining them to make original framed, mixed media textile art pieces, inspired by the beauty in everyday objects and scenes.She especially loves doing commissions, turning a special image or personal photograph of family, pets or houses, into an original, tailor-made piece of textile art.Katie also runs a variety of workshops from her studio, teaching one-on-one or in small groups the techniques she use to make her textile art.

The book is beautifully illustrated with wonderful step by step instructions. The author is very encouraging and gives machine and hand stitching options. Previous free motion machine quilting experience would be a plus but not required to accomplish the projects in the book. My only disappointment is that the bicycle on the front cover is not in the book at all and I was most excited about doing it. While it is not included, there are many wonderful projects and I am looking forward to beginning some.
The book is well written BUT, the directions I wanted the most are not in the book. The picture on the cover is so adorable and I could hardly wait to make it, but it is not in the book.
This book is inspiring.
